Our very first work project was to create our own news flash.

    First of all, we watched some news bulletins to see how journalists present the news. Our goal was to do the same and we started to rehearse with some headlines. It was very funny to repeat the same sentences over and over with the gestures all together (teacher included!). It was a very good exercise because we learned a lot about the English rhythm.
    After that, we made small work groups and we looked for some news which was interesting. Then we wrote our texts and picked out the stressed words and the right intonation : if the sentence “falls” or “rises” at the end.
    Then we practiced again but with our speech this time to speak with the right intonation and facial expression. It was difficult not to laugh and to be as serious as the real journalists. After that we created prompters where we wrote only a few words, the most important one and we placed them at our eye level. Like this we were able to read without showing it during the news flash.
    At the end the teacher shot us and we were all perfect... or not ! Many of us failed because they laughed or forgot their text or were mistaken and it was very entertaining (our teacher has even planned to make a collection of howlers).
