    SIN DOLOR

Sin Dolor is a short story written by TC Boyle and published in 2007.

    Sin Dolor

The story takes place in Mexico and it tells the story of a little boy who can feel no pain. At the beginning of the story, we can see his birth, and when he is born, everybody is worried. His parents are taco sellers.

We see this boy's life, from beginning to end, and we see his evolution. This boy, Damaso, appreciates a doctor who treats him after his multiple injuries due to his handicap. The doctor is very curious about this mysterious gift. His goal is to be friendly with Damaso, to be able to examine him when he wants. The doctor thinks he's got a genetic mutation and wants to get a sample and use it to create a pain-free old age. This genetic sequence could make him a giant of the profession and change the course of his life. Moreover, a good relation is created between Damaso and the doctor, and they become friends.

Damaso's parents exploit his handicap to get money but the Doctor wants to stop it to protect him. As a consequence, Damaso's parents want to put an end to the relation between them.

At the end of the story, Damaso dies because of his injuries, more and more serious.
In the classroom, we decided to transform this novel into a comic strip. We worked chapter by chapter, and decided for all the story what images and dialogues we could put in the comic. Every group had a chapter to transform, for instance. Then, in the classroom, we decided with all the pupils if the choices of pictures and text were good. Now, the project is to have a real comic strip in our hands, with all the drawn pictures and the text written.

It was a good work experience to create a comic. This project was a good idea to give and defend our opinion. We debated a long time for the organization of this comic strip. You can be sure our spoken English is better now !
